The fine print
Terms & Conditions
Plain-English terms for my installation work — especially what is and isn't covered by a fixed-price CCTV or security package. If anything here isn't clear, call me on 0455 895 438 before you book and I'll talk it through.
Last updated: 14 July 2026
These terms apply to work carried out by Summit Communications ([ABN — to confirm]) (“Summit Communications”, “I”, “me”). By accepting a quote or booking an installation, you agree to these terms. Where a written quote or package sheet says something different, that document takes priority for that job.
1. Quotes & pricing
- Quotes are free and, unless stated otherwise, are valid for [30 days — to confirm] from the date I send them.
- A fixed-price package covers only the items listed on that package sheet or quote. Anything not listed is not included (see section 3).
- Prices are in Australian dollars and [include / exclude — to confirm] GST.
- Package pricing assumes a standard install (see “site conditions” in section 4). If the site turns out to be more involved than a normal job, I'll quote any extra before doing it (see section 5).
2. What a CCTV package includes
Unless your package sheet says otherwise, a standard CCTV package includes:
- Supply of the cameras and recorder (NVR) listed for that package;
- Mounting and aiming of each camera at the agreed positions;
- Running and terminating the camera cabling to the recorder, tidied and labelled;
- Setting up the recorder and remote viewing on [number — to confirm] device(s);
- A walk-through so you know how to use the system;
- [e.g. up to X metres of cabling per camera — to confirm];
- Workmanship warranty as set out in section 9.
3. What's not included (out of scope)
To keep package pricing honest, the following are not included unless we agree to them in writing and they're added to your quote:
- Patching, painting or making good wall/ceiling surfaces beyond a neat penetration;
- Additional cabling beyond the length included, or difficult cable routes (e.g. concrete, full brick, no roof/subfloor access);
- Access equipment for high or hard-to-reach areas — scaffolding, elevated work platforms or similar;
- Trenching, underground conduit or links between separate buildings;
- Any licensed electrical work — that's carried out by a licensed electrician, arranged separately;
- Asbestos identification or removal (if suspected material is found, work stops until it's handled safely);
- Fixing or upgrading your internet connection, router or network, or issues caused by your internet provider;
- Ongoing monitoring, cloud storage or any subscription service;
- Repairs to faults in equipment you supplied, or pre-existing cabling/mounts I'm asked to reuse;
- [Anything else you want to exclude — to confirm].
4. Access, power & site conditions
- You'll arrange safe access to the property and to the areas where gear is going, and confirm you're the owner or have the owner's permission for the work (including body-corporate or landlord consent where needed).
- There needs to be a suitable power point near the recorder location, and a working internet connection if remote viewing is part of the job.
- “Standard install” assumes normal single-storey or accessible roof/subfloor space and no hazardous materials. Non-standard conditions may mean a variation (section 5).
5. Extra work & variations
If you ask for extra work, or the site needs more than the standard install allows, I'll let you know and give you a price before I do it. Additional work is charged at [$ hourly / day rate — to confirm] plus materials, or as separately quoted. No surprise charges — you approve extras first.
6. Deposits & payment
- A deposit of [X% — to confirm] may be required to book larger jobs or to order equipment; the balance is due [on completion — to confirm].
- Accepted payment methods: [bank transfer / card / cash — to confirm].
- Equipment remains my property until it's paid for in full.
- Overdue accounts: [late-payment terms, if any — to confirm].
7. Cabling compliance
Telecommunications and data cabling is carried out under ACMA cabler registration (Open Cable registration ID# 27466) and to the AS/CA S009 wiring rules. Where required, a cabling compliance certificate is issued to you for the work.
8. CCTV use, privacy & audio recording
- Once installed, you are the owner and operator of the system and are responsible for using it lawfully.
- In Tasmania it is an offence to record a private conversation without the consent of everyone involved (Listening Devices Act 1991). Because of this, I'll set cameras up with audio recording disabled by default. If you want audio enabled, that's your decision and your responsibility to use it lawfully, including any notices or signage.
- You're responsible for positioning requests that avoid areas where people expect privacy (for example a neighbour's windows or yard). I'll advise where I can, but final camera aim is your call.
- If your business handles recorded footage of people, you may have obligations under privacy law — worth checking for commercial sites.
9. Ownership of your equipment & footage
Once your job is paid for, the equipment and any footage are yours. Your system records locally to the recorder in your property. I don't keep a copy of your footage and I don't retain remote access unless you specifically ask me to for support.
10. Warranty
- My installation workmanship is warranted for [12 months — to confirm] from completion.
- Equipment carries the manufacturer's warranty ([typical period — to confirm]); I'll help you make a claim if something fails within that period.
- The warranty doesn't cover damage from misuse, tampering, storms/lightning/power surges, pests, later changes by others, or equipment you supplied.
11. Support & maintenance
Callouts outside warranty, add-ons and general support are available at [callout / hourly rate — to confirm]. There's no compulsory maintenance plan — you call me if and when you need me.
12. Cancellations & rescheduling
If you need to reschedule, give me as much notice as you can. For cancellations after equipment has been ordered specifically for your job, the deposit or equipment cost may not be refundable ([cancellation terms — to confirm]).
13. Liability & your consumer rights
Nothing in these terms removes or limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, including the consumer guarantees that apply to my services and the goods I supply. Subject to those rights, my liability for a job is limited to re-performing the work or the cost of having it re-performed. I'm not liable for loss caused by factors outside my control — such as internet or power outages, equipment failure, or third-party tampering.
14. Changes to these terms
I may update these terms from time to time; the version in force is the one on this page at the date of your quote. The “last updated” date above shows when they last changed.
